This is a photograph of a seated woman wearing a long, black Victorian dress with a white collar and hoop earrings. She is looking to her left. The writing on the back of the frame identifies the subject as Martha Page Bakewell, a descendant of Lucy Bakewell Audubon's uncle, Benjamin Bakewell. The photograph is framed in a narrow, black wooden frame trimmed in gold. "Leo.[?] Hoffmann" is stamped on the bottom right corner of the image.
