Description

There are four black-and-white photographs of John James Audubon's childhood home, La Gerbetiere, mounted to what appears to be a scrapbook page. Each photograph has a handwritten caption below it describing the image. The first image shows a man, woman, and a child. The woman and child are sitting on the ground along a wall and the man is standing next to a doorway. The caption below it reads, "Court showing entrance door to old home - leading to hall + front entrance [….] J. Lebreton and part of family." Below that are two photographs to left and right. The left image shows trees, a stone wall and stone steps. The caption reads, "Stairway to Lookout Platform on level with top of wall at S. E. corner near [?] main [struct ?]. Posts and wall of old garden in fragments." The image to the right shows the house from the side and the gardens. Caption reads, "View of home - (additions) looking E. from garden wall." The largest photograph shows La Gerbetiere in the distance with structures behind it. In the foreground is a wall and a man in a uniform standing. The caption beneath that image reads, "La Gerbetiere from highway to Coueron village - looking N. W. Butte with windmill towers to left."
