Beaded SashEntry/Object ID
JJA.1938.1346Description
This is a finger-woven, plaited and beaded sash of wool, linen, and glass. Five individually woven panels of red wool and an arrow pattern make-up the sash. The panels are stitched together. Two panels have khaki colored arrows and three have olive green arrows. All arrows are embellished with small white glass beads resembling pearls. The thread count on the green arrows is 18 and 16 on the khaki arrows. Twenty (20) is the thread count on the red yarn on either side of the arrows. The arrow pattern turns around about mid-point on the piece creating a diamond or "bull's eye" pattern. The unwoven ends or fringe measure approximately 26 inches in length. Some of this fringe is decorated with white beads-some are small beads like the ones along the arrows, but most are slightly larger. Ends tend to be hand-knotted and the supporting yarns for the beads appear to be linen.Collection
