Description

This is a circular stone with two flat sides, identified by the accession ledger as an "Indian stone" and is likely a "nutting stone" commonly found in assemblages at Native American sites dating to the Archaic period. Both of the flat sides have a circular depression in the center, each measuring approximately 1.00 in. in diameter. One side has a browned tag that reads: "From the Towles family to the Henderson County Historical Society." The side opposite shows significantly more wear as the deeper, central depression extends to an area of wear measuring approximately 3.00 in. in diameter.
