Description

This is a handwritten poem by Sarah Cleghorn. The transcription is as follows: "The Thread Speaks to The Loom" Alas, what means this endless range Of wide unrest, perpetual change? Is nothing then to say Where it stood yesterday? My hopes and aims are all undone I never creep into the sun But swiftly I implied Back to the shadowed side I cannot find an hour's repose Yes, never finished, nothing closed No half done task resume Such chaos rules the loom! Thus did the fretful thread repine While mingling in a rich design On the bright ground of chance As in a festal dance Sarah N. Cleghorn Manchester, VT Everybody's June, '14 Please don't feel obliged to read all these. I put them in as a post script to your letter, to be destroyed with it."
