This is a dark, reddish brown, flat metal tube that, according to the original PastPerfect record, contains a certificate with a red wax seal. The lid on the tube cannot be easily removed. The original record noted the text of the certificate: "National Academy of Design. This is to certify that Victor Gifford Audubon is an Academician of the National Academy of Design, in testimony whereof the Seal of the Academy is hereunto affixed. Given under our hand in the City of New York, this ninth day of March in the Year of our Lord one Thousand Eight hundred and forty seven. John G. Chapman, Secretary A. B. Durane, President"Collection
