Description

Black and white photograph of the Key West Marine Hospital. The first hospital in Key West was opened for ill and injured seamen. Townspeople had pleaded to the federal government for funds for the facility. Seamen were taxed to provide the funds. The hospital was built on Fleming and Emma streets in 1844.
