Description

United States Navy Spanish-American War West Indies Campaign medal. The West Indies Campaign Medal was presented to personnel of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps who carried out maritime service in the West Indies theater during the Spanish-American War. The decoration was seldom given since most personnel were awarded the Sampson Medal for their service in the West Indies, and the two awards were prohibited from being issued to one individual for the same period of service.
