Postcard depicting a group of native Americans near thatched huts. The caption reads, ‘Seminole Indians at work making boats, Fort Myers, Florida’. The description on the verso reads, ‘The Seminole Indians build their own canoes, hunt and fish and make many articles to sell for a livelihood. They cling to age-old customs in dress and personal habits. Their costumes are gaudy in color.’ The message on the verso reads, ‘Dear Dolores, How goes it, my dear? Want to write me a nice little letter, and tell me all about your fun in Key West? I miss you all so much. I also miss that grand church, St. Paul’s. I expect you go to Sunday School. We are having warmer weather today, thanks be! I am on our deck writing and gathering a new crop of freckles. The Gulf is very calm. Love to all, Evelyn Ware.’ The card is addressed to Miss Dolores “Darling”, c/o Miss Jennie Seymour, 519 Elizabeth Street, Key West, Florida, and is postmarked Fort Myers, Florida, March 5, 1942.Collection
