John Huling Geiger (1805-1881). Captain Geiger was born in St. Augustine, the son of John Henry Geiger of Lancaster, PA and Catherine Huling of Baltimore. He came to Key West in the early 1820s and established himself as the first Harbor Pilot for Key West. He was one of the city's most prominent citizens and raised a family of nine children. He married Lucretia Saunders of the Bahamas in 1829, and he built a home for his family on the corner of Whitehead and Greene Streets. The home still stands today and is open to the public as the Audubon House and Tropical Gardens.Collection
