Postcard depicting a lighthouse. The description on the verso reads, ‘Ocracoke Lighthouse. This 76 foot lighthouse was lit for the first time in 1823. In the early days the lighthouse keepers painted it with a whitewash made to a recipe supplied by the U.S. Lighthouse Board, which included unslaked lime, salt, ground rice, Spanish whiting, and clear glue.’Collection
