Scope and Content

Handwritten folded letter on Casa Marina Hotel stationery. Letter was written by James Buckley to his father during the former's time working at Casa Marina during the winter of 1928-1929. Letter reads, 'Dear Pop: I'm still eating the Hotel out of house and home and gaining weight faster than you can imagine. Since I've been here I've gained eleven pounds. I now weigh 136. I've been in swimming too every day and have got a fine sun-burn. It don't hurt though. You don't feel it down here. The weather is still wonderful and continues to remain hot. Am still working hard but also am having a fine time. I wish you were here. It's a great place. How is Russie. I hope he feels better. Too bad, my pop, you had to work all that extra time. Try and keep well yourself as there's even a lot of "flu" down here. I've written to Uncle John and Uncle Rich and will write to Uncle Jim & Gandy when I get a chance. Received a fine letter from Uncle Jim. Everyday I have a little talk with the baker. He's a German and a fine man. He always asks me, "Vell Chimmie, How many rolls you eat joost now? When I say "Oh, baker, only about 6 or 7, he says "Mein E-olt. Vot an appetite dot boy has got. He says if it wasn't for me, he wouldn't have no job down here (you're glad to hear that I know my Pop). Well I'll close now hoping to hear from you real soon, and I'll write again myself. Goodbye my Popski. Loads of love and kisses from your Jimo."
