The caption reads, ‘May the New Years Key unlock the gates of happiness for you!’ The message on the verso reads, ‘December 24, 1910, Dear Carrie, The box arrived, all OK on Thursday – and nothing broken at all – I am at the P.O. writing this. Just took Stella the Piccalilli, she says many thanks & she will write as soon as she can, her Ma is at her house about to pass away. Papa is feeling O.K. Have had a bad headache all day – Will write you a long letter Monday. Many thanks for everything. All from me with love and kisses for a Happy New Year – Lill. I received the locket last night & think it is beautiful. Also the ribbon from Carolyn. Many thanks to the little darling for it.’ The card is addressed to Mrs. John W.
