Description

Black and white photograph of the schooner Island Home underway. In 1903, when sail was still the only means of transport in the Florida Keys, John 'Bush' Pinder, a Plantation Key farmer, had the schooner Island Home built to carry his pineapples to market and to provide freight and passenger service to other settlements along the Keys. The schooner was built on Plantation Key by a part Black, part Indian Bahamian known as 'Old Whiskers' Wilkerson.
