Scope and Content

A handwritten letter from Clerk for the Southern District of Florida Eugene O. Locke and Deputy Clerk of the State Circuit Court George Whiting Allen to the Marshall of the Southern District of Florida directing him to act as a messenger to deliver notice of Warrants in Bankruptcy against the Estate of C.E. Home and others in the city of Key West. The letter details a notice that was to be published four (4) times in the local paper concerning the warrant. Also included is a list of others found to be in bankruptcy who were to be served notices regarding an October 2, 1876 court date with W. Mahoney, Esquire, Register and Judge James W. Locke. The sheriff of Monroe County at the time was James A. Roberts and he was likely the one assigned the duty of messenger.
