Postcard depicting a gated entrance. The caption reads, ‘Navy Yard Entrance, Key West, Florida’. The description on the verso reads, 'In the Navy Yard at Key West there is a wealth of notable trees, the rare Geiger tree, prodigal with scarlet blossoms and discovered by the sketch Audubon made of it as a background for a painting of the white-crowned Cuban Pigeon; the "Sausage Tree", and many others.' The message on the verso reads, 'Fort Myers, Florida, March 25, 1948. Have just arrived here from Miami. It is very cool here and it was very warm in Miami. We had a lovely trip to Key West. Over bridge after bridge. One bridge seven miles long. Quite an ocean voyage in a bus. Oh, beautiful I came here to hear the ___. Love, Catherine'.
