Woodblock print from the April 19, 1862 edition of Frank Leslie's Illustrated News featuring an image of Fort Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas, the 'Key to the Gulf of Mexico' on the upper half of the page. The lower half depicts a view of Key West from the deck of the USS CONNECTICUT. The view includes Curry's Wharf and Observatory, Filer's Storehouse, Wall & Pinckney's Hotel, Post Office, Tefft's [Tift] Wharf and Observatory, Government Wharves and Coat Depot, Hospital, Railway and Fort Taylor. The lithograph was taken from a sketch by the artist Mr. Waud.Collection
