Wood carving by Mario Sanchez depicting Jack's Crawfish & Conchs cart walking down Whitehead Street.
Caption written by Sanchez reads, 'For many years this place (La Fonda De Jose Pla on the corner of Whitehead and Angela streets) was a popular restaurant where Jose Pla made a specialty of his own by cooking boliche and black beans on a clay hearth (fogon) that served as a stove fueled with coal. While Jose lightly fried the onion, garlic, green pepper and olive oil to put in the soft-boiled black beans, we knew that he was cooking black beans because its aroma invaded the whole neighborhood. We are still guessing if the cooking on the clay hearth with coal gave the black beans and boliche the special savor.'Type of Sculpture
