Oil paint on relief wood carving. One piece of wood with blue sailfish carved in center. Borders have a carved edge. Caption in the file reads, 'Fish caught off the coasts and reefs of the Florida Keys were Mario's first subjects for carved and painted boards. He began making them around 1930, meaning 'A Key West Sailfish' is an early representation of the artist's work. 'Nobody taught me how, ' he explained, 'Some people whittle, I carve fish...'
