Black and white photograph of Naval Air Station Key West on Trumbo Point. Caption overlaid on the image reads, 'This is a copy of an original photograph which was taken in 1918 depicting the then existing US Naval Air Station, Key West. The station during World War I was located at what is now known as the Seaplane Base. The Base was used for training Seaplane pilots; observation balloons and dirigibles which were based at Key West along with surface craft to block any attempt of the enemy to obtain Mexican oil and to patrol adjacent waters for enemy submarines. Shortly after the end of hostilities, the buildings in this photo were dismantled. Several years later, the airship hangar was dismantled and removed to Opa Locka (Miami).'Photograph Details
