Name/Title

Dr. C. Bouvier's Buchu Gin Bottle

Entry/Object ID

2014.22.0045

Description

Clear gin bottle with 'Dr. C. Bouvier's Buchu Gin' embossed on the side. It contained 'buchu gin', a potion made by straining gin liquor through the leaves of the Latin American buchu plant, presumably taking along their essence and health-giving properties. Dr. C. Bouvier’s Buchu Gin was advertised as a remedy for kidney and bladder diseases or for 'general disability'. The bottle was originally excavated by the donor's mother, Grace Curlee, during the restoration of Fort Zachary Taylor in the 1960s.
