Dining room aboard Pan Am's luxurious Boeing 314 flying boats was also a popular lounge during nonstop flights that lasted 16 hours or longer. The aircraft inaugurated Pan Am's first transatlantic service in 1939 and later spanned the Pacific on flights to the Orient and New Zealand, carrying up to 70 passengers depending upon the length of the flight. Pan American World Airways in 1977 celebrated its 50th Anniversary of international air service.
