Black and white photograph of the USS SALEM monument in the Key West Cemetery. On September 29, 1918, one of the ship's liberty boat returning to the SALEM overturned and eighteen men drowned. Eight of the bodies were recovered and buried in the Battleship MAINE plot in the cemetery. The SALEM was flagship of the twelve submarine chasers based in Key West during World War I.Photograph Details
