Postcard depicting a Mario Sanchez woodcarving of two men running down a sidewalk passing a business with a sign that reads, ‘J and R Coats Thread’. The description on the verso reads, 'Mario Sanchez. "Drop That Chicken" - 1960 - Painted Woodcarving. Well-known corner in Key West, where Duval Street (main street) crosses Southard. Left is Gamble's Jewelry Store (1965), recently renovated former "Frankie" Holtsberg Clothing Store. Building at right was lovingly known as "Jakey's" for its owner, Jake Aronovitz. Sign on window says "J. & P. Coates Thread". Buildings at end of Southard Street (at Thomas) are the old Waterworks. Note brick street and street car tracks on Duval Street. The finely carved balustrades across second story fronts of houses were cool for the tropics and in Key West particularly convenient for watching the many colorful parades held on all possible occasions. Also note wooden ceiling fan. Collection "El Kiosko", Key West, Florida.'Subject Place
