Postcard depicting a Mario Sanchez woodcarving of a man reading a book to cigar rollers at the Edward H. Gato Cigar Factory, Key West, Florida.  The description on the verso reads, 'Mario Sanchez.  "The Reader and the Cigar Makers" - 1963 - Painted Woodcarving.  A section of the Gato Cigar Factory (now the site of the U.S. Navy Commissary), Simonton Street at Virginia, Key West, Florida.  1000 cigar makers worked here.  The Reader was characteristic of the larger factories and would read to the cigar makers, as they worked, Spanish newspapers, classic novels, and the daily English-language newspapers which he would translate.
