Description

Oil and pencil portrait on canvas board by Tennessee Williams depicting the British actor Michael York. Handwritten on verso, 'Portrait of (actor) Michael York, oil (unvarnished), Tennessee Williams'. York made his Broadway debut in the original production of Williams' play, 'Out Cry', in 1973. It received mostly poor reviews and closed after only ten performances. This portrait pays homage to their working relationship and their lifelong friendship.
