Dec. 22, 29 10:30 a.m. Temp 85 Key West
Arrived here yesterday after a dangerous ride onver the Keys. The first ride was 91 miles, then we took the ferry for 45 miles (5.50 it cost), then motored 45 more miles over the Keys to K.W. It seemed like a riding on a long narrow pier. I counted 22 bridges then stoped counting. K.W. has the longest railroad bridge in the world -- 40 miles & cost 55 millions. The cemetary here has the graves of the unknown dead & others fro the Spanish American War (Maine). The waves of the Florida Straights are like aquamarine -- a blue-green & clear as crystal. Beautiful flowers of all colors grow on the ocean bed & I have been wading around pulling them out. K.W. is a quaint, dirty town of Cubans & Spaniards. It is really an Island of White Corol (coral) 7 miles long 3 1/2 wide -- the longest street runs from the Florida Straights to the Gulf of Mexico. We sail tomorrow 8 a.m. on the "Governor Cobb" for Cuba -- Do write me at Miami. Lots of Love, Aunt Ethel. The cocoanuts we eat with a spoon like ice cream.Dimensions
