Description

White porcelain teacup and saucer with gold rims, fabricated by El Palacio de Crystal, Habana, for the steam yacht MARTHA III. The set features crossed nautical flags and the MARTHA III insignia, with a thin gold accent line around the rim. The MARTHA III was formerly owned by Cuban President Fulgencio Batista. In early 1959, the yacht sailed to Key West along with the converted PT boat OLOKUN II and the small cruiser SIMBAD. Together, the three vessels transported 44 Cubans to Key West, including naval personnel, police officers, dentists, lawyers, members of the Cuban cabinet, and newsmen.
