Description

Underwater breathing and submarine escape apparatus designed to enable individual escape from a disabled or sunken submarine. This example consists of an olive-brown rubberized breathing bag or tank holder with an attached steel breathing regulator, black rubber mouthpiece and breathing tubes, and khaki canvas straps. A canister containing soda lime within the breathing bag absorbs carbon dioxide from exhaled air, allowing the breathing gas to be recirculated during ascent. When inflated, the breathing bag also provides buoyancy and functions as a life preserver when the wearer reaches the surface.
