Postcard depicting the entrance to Naval Station Key West on the corner of Thomas and Southard streets.  An overhead sign reads, ‘US Naval Station, Key West, Florida’.  Notation on verso, 'Entrance U.S. Naval Station, Key West, Florida.  The Naval Station is built on grounds originally used by pirates to careen their ships.  It has served throughout the anti-pirate operations, Civil War, Spanish American War, World Wars I and II and the Castro Cuba Crisis and has always been an important base.
