Description

Fraternal ceremonial sword associated with the Knights of the Golden Eagle (K.G.E.), a secret society and mutual-aid organization founded in Baltimore, Maryland. The sword features a long, slender, straight blade intended for ceremonial rather than martial use. The segmented grip terminates in a decorative cast pommel depicting a perched golden eagle with raised wings, referencing the organization’s name and insignia. The crossguard incorporates a shield or cartouche bearing the initials 'KGE,' with ornamental floral and foliate decoration extending along the guard. The Knights of the Golden Eagle organized local chapters as 'castles' and used ceremonial regalia for meetings, parades, and degree rituals. The organization maintained a presence in Key West, and this ceremonial sword is purportedly associated with the Key West chapter.
