Handwritten letter on blue stationery. Debossed logo in top left corner depicting sidewheel steam ship with P & S below. Letter dated June 20, 1849, postmarked June 21. Letter, addressed to "My Dear Wife," relates WIlliam DeForest's transactions in New Orleans, and potential visits to Brownsville Texas and "Mattamoris," Mexico. Handwritten note on address face: "1849 Before the days of postage stamps" Small sealing wax stain.
