Description

Painting: Oil on canvas. Portrait of seated, older woman in three-quarter view. She is wearing a dark/black dressing gown/robe which has tulle/net collar. Also protruding from the neck is a sheer ruffled collar/fichu. She is wearing an indoor cap of fine, white dotted cotton(?) trimmed with ribbons and edged with lace. She is holding a red paisley shawl. Back of canvas has writing: "Painted by H. Bridport/ Aug. 1823/ Schec y" Hannah Marie Seaman (portrait donated by Mrs. Rosa M. Fleury in 1914) Possibly Frame: Simple, wooden, gold leaf frame decorated with applied gesso in a leaf-like pattern. Also on all four corners there are floral arrangements.
