Description

Frame for engraving of Mary Alsop King (1769-1819) in a 3/4 seated pose, with her hands clasped across her lap, wearing a neo-classical gown with a shawl entwined in her arms. Seated in a curve backed chair with scroll arms. Column and drapery in background. Inscription under image: Mrs. Rufus King/(Mary Alsop)/ from original pciture by John Trumbull in possession of/his son Charles King LLD/New York D. Appleton & Co. 346 348 Broadway. Removed from wood frame Dec. 1997. Frame (x1993.57-2) has glass, red-brown varnish, scalloped edges, gadrooning along edge. Frame matches (x1993.58-2) for image of Rufus King. Frame is located in Box 75.
