Letter written to Frank Banning of Kinsman Ohio from Franz Hanfstaengl Fine Art Publishing House of New York from June 24, 1912. Letter outlines the shipment of fine art by Dr. Dudley P. Allen to furnish the Kinsman Free Public Library including an inventory sheet.
Free Public Library,
Kinsman, O.
Mr Frank Banning, Cor. Sec’y,
Dear Sir,
We have the pleasure to acknowledge receipt of your valued favor of the 22nd. inst. and desire to say that according to the memo. enclosed we have shipped to-day by Am. Ex. seven of the pictures purchased by Dr Dudley P. Allen of Cleveland O.., the last framed picture (the eighth) we expect to send within about two months for the reason that, in order to furnish your Institution the very best, we will have the ORIGINAL COLOR REPRODUCTION of Rembrandt “Night Watch” taken from an entirely new and technically improved plate, to excell our former reproduction of this subject, which, we trust, will amply recompense you for the delay in the delivery of this picture thus inevitable. In subjecting the framed pictures sent to scrutinous eyes, we feel confidant, you will find that the workmanship alone in itself is of the very best, not to speak at all of the style of the frames which we have specially chosen and made up in this old gold antique effect, which marked the Originals of the OId Italian and Spanish School, we dare say that we might congratulate ourselves on having been successful, we hope, you will concur with us. also, that the shipment will arrive in good condition.
Yours very respectfully
