Description

Gunderman Mill circ 1900. This is a building started by Linus Parker in the 1830s. He died of typhoid after contracting the disease in Cleveland where he had gone to purchase the mill stone. Seymour Potter took over and finished the mill which sat close to Route 5 on the north just after it has crossed Stratton Creek. Water from a dam close to the crossing of Morford-East Rd. was diverted to a flume dug into the east side of the stream bed which kept the water elevated until it came to the mill where the steep drop powered the mill wheel. The mill would eventually come to be owned by the Gunderman family. During their tenure the water power was used to generate electricity.
