JI2025000283Description
Ceramic figurine of male in traditional Kuwaiti dress holding falcon. The Bedouin people are a pastorally nomadic Arab tribe who have inhabited the desert of the Arab Peninsula, North Africa, the Levant, and Mesopotamia for centuries. The falcon represents the sport of falconry which is a deep-rooted part of Arab culture. While they were originally used for hunting, owning the large bird of prey is now a hobby. Additionally, the falcon can be found on the national Emblem of Kuwait with the bird representing the Banu Quraish line, the lineage in which the Islamic Prophet Muhammad belonged.Context
This piece was made in Kuwait by a friend of the Jordans who ran a ceramics shop.Ethnography
