Silver bottle-shaped decanter with chain-attached lid depicting a Persian Banquet of Song and Dance.

Context

The piece was gifted to the Jordans by the Shah of Persia, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. He was the last monarch of Iran and began his rule in 1941 until he was overthrown during the Iranian Revolution in 1979. He centralized the Iranian government and was pivotal in bringing back foreign oil companies into the country’s industry through the Consortium Agreement of 1954. It is believed to have been made in Pakistan.
