Description

18K gold Omega Ladymatic watch with black case. The Ladymatic watch was produced from 1954-1962 by Omega and was hand-riveted with gold hour markers and gold stick hands.

Context

The Omega Ladymatic watch was presented to Mrs. Jessie Jordan by Sheikh Abdullah Mubarak Al Sabah of Kuwait on June 6, 1960, after Mr. L.T. Jordan’s mother passed away. Sheikh Abdulla Mubarak Al Sabah was the youngest son of the founder of the modern state of Kuwait. He became governor of Kuwait City in 1942 and assumed the presidency of the General Security Department. In 1948, he was responsible for creating the Kuwaiti Defense Forces and later acted as Deputy Ruler of Kuwait from 1950-1960. “Sheikh” is a formal title for Arabic men, originally used for tribal chiefs, religious leaders, and royal family members, now it has expanded in use to address political leaders.
