Painted white porcelain woman holding flower in a yellow robe. It depicts the Chinese Buddhist goddess of mercy, Guanyin (also spelled Quan Ying and Kwan Yin in Burmese). Guanyin is the physical embodiment of compassion and is often depicted holding a lotus blossom flower and gilded with a gold robe, as seen in this piece.

Context

The figurine was given to the Jordans by Chinese workmen that came to work at the Kuwait Oil Company during the 1950s.
