JI2025000337Description
Engraved silver coffee service with yellow gold rose inlay. The coffee service has one coffee pot, one small urn-shaped jar for holding sugar, one round incense burner on a round footed tray, one tall rosewater sprinkler, one large rectangular tray, and eight small porcelain and gold cups. There is no milk pitcher as Arabian coffee is normally drunk black with lots of sugar.Context
The silver coffee service with the yellow gold rose inlay was made especially for Mrs. Jessie Jordan by Mrs. Al-Ghanim, wife of the founder of joint stock company Al-Ghanim Industries, in 1977 in Kuwait. Mrs. Al-Ghanim had instructed the gold and silversmiths to make the service of sterling and inlay it with the Yellow Rose of Texas, however, he did not know what it looked like and used the Yellow Rose of Sharon instead.Ethnography
