Yellow program from the Twelfth Annual Ladies' Festival held at the Kuwait Masonic Lodge No. 6810 on February 15, 1961, in Ahmadi, Kuwait. There is an image of the man and woman in colonial garments. The man is playing a flute-like instrument and the woman has a lamb on a leash. The inside of the program contains a list of toasts performed at the event, including “Her Majesty the Queen and the Craft,” “President of the United States of America,” and “His Highness The Ruler of Kuwait.” It also contains a menu for the meal that night where items such as “Poulet Roti a l’Anglaise” and “Fraises Mimosa” were served (English-styler roasted chicken and strawberry mimosas). Additionally, the program is covered in signatures of the women who attended that night.Context
The program is from the Twelfth Annual Ladies’ Festival held at Kuwait Masonic Lodge No. 6810 on February 15, 1961. The event was held in the Ahmadi Guest House, a small event space owned by the Kuwait Oil Company, and Mrs. Jordan was the Guest of Honor. Mrs. Jordan was honored at many Ladies Nights during her time in Kuwait and was often the “Guest of Honor” at such events. Ladies Nights in the Masonic Lodge are designed to honor the women in a Freemason’s life, whether that be a wife, daughter, sister, mother, or other supporting woman.Ethnography
