King Farouk I was known for his “playboy lifestyle,” corruption, and incompetence in government and was subsequently forced to abdicate the throne to his infant son following a military coup in 1952. He and his wife were then exiled, during which she divorced him and returned to Egypt with her mother. She was the last Queen of Egypt.
