Description

The small vase is Nippon-style Japanese porcelain with a hand-painted scene of a house by a river. The vase also has raised detailing around the top edge and bottom base. The stamp on the bottom of the piece has a “M” in a wreath with “Hand Painted Nippon” listed as well. The “M” stands for the importer, Morimura Bros, Inc., who have used this mark since 1911. The style is indicative of the “Imperial Style” found throughout Japan during its time as an imperial power from 1868-1945. The Morimura Bros, Inc., formerly the Morimura Gumi, is one of Japan’s leading porcelain and ceramics manufacturers with roots back to 1876. The company was founded by Ichizaemon Morimura VI and his brother Toyo, both pioneers in Japanese Trade.
