Description

28-piece porcelain, silver, and gold coffee service. It contains one large silver coffee pot, one small silver coffee pot, one large rectangular silver tray, one small round footed tray with a silver incense burner, one tall rosewater sprinkler, and twenty-three bone China and gold coffee cups. The small cups were made by Colclough Genuine Bone China in England. Colclough China was founded in 1890 and produced tea and dinnerware that were highly sought after. The company was bought by Royal Doulton in the 1970s and stopped manufacturing items in 1996.

Context

The coffee service was gifted to Mr. and Mrs. Jordan by Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the tenth ruler of the Sheikhdom of Kuwait. Sheikh Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-reigned from 1921-1950, making him the longest reining ruler of Kuwait having reigned for almost 29 years. During his reign, he was the lead cavalry commander, founder of the military of Kuwait, and Directorate of Public Security Force. The coffee service was presented to the Jordans during their first visit to Kuwait.
