Pair of small carved wooden figurines of men playing instruments. They are made of cedar wood and are playing the Chinese instrument known as a Chinese zither, or guqin. As China’s foremost solo musical instrument tradition, the instrument has been around for over 3,000 years as a favorite for educated people, who admired its beauty and refinement.

Context

The figurines were given to the Jordans by Chinese workmen that came to work at the Kuwait Oil Company during the 1950s.
