Description

Arnold's, 1979. These two black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show exterior shots of Arnold's Restaurant. Image 38 shows a glass double door with a cartoon chef with a mustache on the left-hand door and "Arnold's RESTAURANT" on the right-hand door. The left-hand door is closer to the photographer. Image 39 is very similar to the previous image, but here the doors are nearly equidistant from both doors. Image 40 shows an exterior shot of Arnold's Restaurant, including a portion of the parking lot. Two hatchback-style cars are parked in the parking lot. Image 42 shows a wider shot of the front door of the restaurant than that seen in images 38 and 39. A curving set of concrete stairs extends from the landing outside of the front door toward the photographer. Image 43 is nearly identical to the previous image. Image 44 shows an exterior shot of the restaurant and a portion of the parking. The back end of four cars parked in front of the restaurant are visible in the image. The leftmost car's license plate reads "CTA 418." Image 1 shows a fairly close-up shot of the cartoon chef on the front door of the restaurant. Arnold's Restaurant was owned by Arnold Ball, a local chef and restaurant owner. (Ken Balsley Interview, 10-29-2019) Printed at intervals along the top edge of these two film negative strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063."
