Description

North Thurston Day Care School, Unknown Date. These six black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show students and teachers at a day care school. Image 32 shows at left a little girl in overalls petting a rabbit, which is up on a table. A woman in a plaid shirt is at right. Both the little girl and the woman are looking toward the camera. Image 33 is similar to the previous image, but here the little girl and the woman are facing away from the camera. A woman in a belted cardigan is partially visible in the background. Image 34 shows at left a little girl in a plaid shirt holding a piece of decorated paper which likely reads "HEATHER." A woman at right is wearing an apron with a patchwork quilt-style pattern on it. Image 35 shows at left the woman in the plaid shirt seen in images 32 and 33 sitting down and holding a bunny in her lap. At right is a little girl with a small braid on the side of her head petting the rabbit. Image 36 also shows the woman in the plaid shirt holding the rabbit in her lap, but here at right are 4-5 children and the woman in the patchwork apron looking at the rabbit. A little boy in a horizontally-striped polo-style shirt is shown in profile in the right-hand foreground of the image. Image 37 is very similar to image 36, but here there are less children looking at and petting the rabbit. Image 38 is very similar to the previous image, but here the woman in the patchwork apron is more visible and is holding the rabbit's ears in her left hand. Image 41 shows the woman in the patchwork apron helping a little girl in paisley-patterned pants with a project on an easel. Image 42 shows a little girl with a nametag around her neck which reads "HEATHER" and the woman in the patchwork apron seated at a table. The woman is writing or drawing on a piece of paper with a marker. Image 43 is very similar to the previous image, but here the woman is holding what appears to be half of a potatoe in her hand. Image 44 is similar to the previous two images, but here the girl with the nametag is preparing to put the half-potatoe object into a paper plate containing a sandy or powdery substance. Image 1 shows the little girl pressing the half-potatoe onto the piece of paper in front of her. Image 2 is very similar to image 1, but here the photographer has moved to their right by several feet. Image 3 shows two children rubbing finger paint on a table top. Image 4 shows at right the woman with the patchwork apron seated with the rabbit in her lap. At left are two little girls with their faces very close together. Image 5 shows at left a seated woman in glasses wearing an apron with a tree design on it. At right are several children playing with toys emulating kitchen items and food. Image 6 shows a woman in bell-bottom jeans holding a little boy in her lap. The little boy is wearing a nametag which reads "DEMIAN." The woman is reading a book entitled "FROSTY" to the little boy. Image 7 shows at left a small child in an apron who appears to be finger painting. At right is the woman in the patchwork apron. Image 8 shows at left a child writing with chalk on a chalkboard. Two other children are mostly obscured behind the child writing on the chalkboard. At right is the woman in the patchwork apron and further to the right is a little boy in a horizontally-striped polo shirt. Image 9 shows a woman in an apron putting an apron on a small child. Near the right-hand edge of the image is a painting of a teddy bear. Image 10 shows a woman in an apron holding a glass jar in her left hand and a paintbrush in her right hand. She is applying paint to a tabletop while a small child watches.
