Musicians, Unknown Dates. These four black and white contact print strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images were created using three separate film rolls, so some of the physical numbers on the strips are repeated. For the purposes of this description, these strips will be organized into groups based on the film roll from which they originally came. Each group will be assigned a lower-case letter to go along with the physical numbers on the strips (ex: 1a, 2a, 3a, 1b, 2b, 3b, etc.) to help differentiate between images. It is likely that all or most of these images were captured at one of the Lacey MAD Festivals.
The images in group "a" show an older man playing fiddle, a young man playing the fiddle, a man playing an electric guitar and singing, a man playing drums, and shots from the back of the stage of the band playing. Image 25 shows what appears to be the upper portion of the leg of a folding table. Image 26 shows a man in glasses and a vest playing the fiddle. The man is wearing a nametag which reads "Neil Johnston." His head and body are oriented toward the camera, and his head is tipped downward slightly. Image 27 is very similar to the previous image, but here the man is facing toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Here the man's whole nametag is visible, and at the bottom it reads "Tenino." Image 28 is similar to the previous two images, but here the man is turned only partially toward the right-hand side of the image frame. His head is tipped upward slightly. Image 29 shows a young man in glasses playing the fiddle. Image 36 shows a bearded man playing a Gibson Les Paul electric guitar and singing into a microphone. Image 37 is very similar to the previous image, but here the man is tipping his head away from the camera. Image 38 shows a man with a mustache wearing a plaid shirt playing the drums. His head is turned partially toward the right-hand side of the image frame. Image 39 is very similar to the previous image, but here the man's head is turned more toward the camera. Image 40 shows a blurry shot of the back of a combination amplifier or cabinet, the back of a man's head and shoulders, and a portion of the crowd. Image 41 shows the band playing. The image was captured from the back portion of the stage. A portion of the audience is visible in the background, as is a portion of what appears to be Marcus (previously Capital) Pavilio on the Saint Martin's campus.
The images in group "b" show a clown, a person cooking on a grill, and a crowd of mostly seated people at an outdoor venue. Image 40 shows a clown frowning. The image was captured from slightly below the clown's face level. Image 41 is similar to the previous image, but here the image was captured from the waist level of the clown. Image 42 shows the clown facing toward the right. Image 43 shows the clown facing toward the left. Imge 44 shows a person in a flower-print shirt cooking hamburgers on a grill. Image 1 shows a crowd of mostly seated people at an outdoor venue. Several food vendors are visible in the background.
The images in group "c" show a young man in glasses playing drumset. Image 42 shows the young man playing on the snare drum at his left. Image 43 shows the young man playing a tom drum at his right. Image 44 shows the young man with one drumstick partially obscuring his face. Image 1 shows te young man playing parts of his drumset to his left. His right arm is mostly obscured behind a tom. Image 2 shows the young man playing a part of his drumset far to his left.
Printed in alternation along one long edge of the strips in groups "a" and "b" is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM." Printed at intervals along the left-hand edge of the film strip in group "c" is "KODAK SAFETY FILM 5063" (this is very faded).Made/Created
