Description

Maurice Twitchell and Carrier Children, 1973. These two black and white film negative strips were created for the Lacey Leader newspaper. These images show an aerial view of a portion of Panorama City, a man (Maurice Twitchell) posing for portrait-style photos, and approximately 30 children posing together for a group photo. Image 20 shows an aerial photo of a residential neighborhood in Panorama City with many large evergreen trees throughout the neighborhood. Image 21 shows Maurice Twitchell wearing a collared shirt with a flower pattern on it. His body is oriented partially toward the left-hand side of the image frame. He is shown from the waist up. Image 22 is very similar to the previous image, but here the Mr. Twitchell's body is oriented partially toward the right-hand edge of the image frame. Image 23 shows a group of approximately 30-40 children posing together for a group photo. These children were newspaper delivery employees of the Lacey Leader newspaper. This image appears to have been captured in a parking lot or other large, paved area. Two power poles are visible in the background. Some of the children are holding documents of some kind, which are likely newpspae subscription documents. Images 24 through 29 are nearly identical to image 23. Printed in alternation along one long edge of both of these film strips is "KODAK SAFETY FILM" and "KODAK TRI X PAN FILM." The images of Maurice Twitchell were captured for inclusion with a story concerning his campaign to join the Lacey City Council. ("Incumbents face voters for first time," Lacey Leader, 8/15/1973) The images of the group of children were captured for a promotion in the Lacey Leader newspaper. The children were newspaper delivery employees of the Lacey Leader who were engaged in a subscription contest for the newspaper. ("SUBSCRIPTION CONTEST," Lacey Leader, 8/22/1973)
